Secret Code

February 9, 2015

Is that how you feel when you think about going to a gym?  I’ll let you in on a little secret…there isn’t one.

So many of us are intimidated by what we think is the secret code that only “experienced” gym goers are privy to.  What do those machines do?  How do I use them?  Am I going to hurt myself?  I’m too out of shape to be here.  Is it obvious that I have no idea what I’m doing?  Am I wearing the right clothes?

It’s true that there is some knowledge needed for a safe and effective workout, but don’t be anxious about showing up.  We all have to start somewhere.  Everyone in that gym who’s working out today started somewhere.  I’ve never met anyone in all the gyms I’ve been in, among all the people I’ve talked to in those gyms, who looked down on someone else who was there.

Many of my clients have told me how they’ve wanted to work out for a long time, but always felt uncomfortable about going to a gym.  That is a great reason to start out with a trainer.  Trainers show you the ropes in a gym, teach you safe and effective exercise techniques and programs and help you to increase your confidence with exercise and with your body.   A trainer will also help you train more efficiently and effectively, thereby helping you to meet your goals more quickly.

Even knowing all this, some people just prefer to train in private.  Maybe home workouts are what you’re looking for.  Either for convenience or privacy, working out at home can be just as effective as working out in a gym.  Body weight exercises or exercises using limited, inexpensive equipment such as rubber tubing and balls can be challenging for all fitness levels.

I would love to help you get where you want to be.  I can teach you what you need to know to meet your fitness goals anywhere you would like – in a gym, at home or in a local park.  You can do it.  You can be one of those people that new exercisers think have the secret code.
